Entering the realm of machine knitting

Some weeks back I attended a course in machine knitting and I must say I am hooked! This scarf on the picture above I knitted in 2 hours instead of two weeks that it would have probably taken me by hand.

We made our own patterns using the punchcard system on the course and I made both this bird pattern and the above seen dragonfly pattern.
The machines we used in the course were all Brother machines and after much pondering and wondering I bought my own used Brother knitting machine. The above knitted piece with bird pattern I knitted on my own machine that I got to work after a thorough clean up and some fixing with the help from youtube tutorials. I am so excited to see that it seems to be working!

My cozy knitting studio on the kitchen table :)

View from underneath the knitting machine carriage. I had to use all my engineer genes I have from my grandfather to work out how to fix some of the springy thingys underneath the carriage. With the help of youtube and some DIY engineering it seems to now be working!

Horse/ bunny/ heart sweater done!

I finished my horse sweater! I decided to go all whimsical and playful  and added bunnies and hearts around the collar and some gingerbread trimmings along sleeves and neck opening.  I am very satisfied with the end result and will definitely be wearing this warm luxury Alpaca and wool sweater during the coming cold winter.

On the backside of the sweater I added a little bow on one of the horses, always fun with some unexpected detail.

An alpaca cardigan named Brynja

This cardigan is almost done, just need to make the finishing touchest. I knitted it with Garnstudio Drops Alpaca yarns and made up the pattern as I went along.

I knitted the cardigan on a circular 4 mm needle and then cut it open after having a go with the sewing machine and making sure the knit stays intact. I chose to crochet along the edges and think I will choose some invisible fastening system, to add buttons doesnt feel right with this motif since there is already so much going on.

Primadonnas horse

I am knitting this horse sweater inspired by Tove Janssons flower horses. The horses look a little chubby but it kind of fits its sympathetic character. I was considering turning them into cows at one point when they were far from resembeling horses, but with some adjustments while knitting I think I got them to look like horses.

I am using different alpaca and wool yarns in violet, blue and lilac colors.

Illustration from Tove jansson Who will comfort Toffle?. I think I will emdroider some details onto the horses once the whole sweater is finished, maybe some flowers and eyes and the red ribbon  around the neck.

The softest sweater ever!!

My new found love is Drops Alpaca Silk Brushed. It is supersoft with its mix of brushed alpaca and Mulberry Silk.  I have gotten a lot of requests for the pattern for this sweater and now finally it is done! You can check it out and download it through Ravelry here, it goes by the name The Fluffy Feather Sweater by Veronika Lindberg.
Or if you are not a member you can pick up a copy through here
